Christmas is past and I can still fit into my jeans - with no thanks to healthy eating. It was more a result of two mammoth headaches which rendered me prone and nauseous for 24 hours a piece.
I haven’t had a migraine for months so two in a week was bitter, the second one felled me on New Year’s Day. Apart from that, my holidays were fun and interesting. Christmas was at Leixlip Castle, home of Penny Guinness, the person I secretly nominated as my Godmother when I was a child (I wasn’t christened which meant I could choose who I wanted, though they never knew).
Christmas lunch at Leixlip Castle.
The highlight was spending an afternoon alone with Penny while Jasmine Guinness sweetly took my son off to a shooting range and I looked through Penny’s photo albums from the Sixties and Seventies. She had a few tiny snapshots of me wearing a pair of pale pink chintz dungarees she had made for me and which looked very Marc Jacobs and stylish, though I remember begging not to wear them.
New Year’s Eve was spent in Brighton with my dearest friend Susie Bick. I am always superstitious about New Year’s Eve so being with Susie and her family was relaxing and exciting. Our children get on, our husbands get on and we catch up intensely – especially as we are working on a collection together for autumn/winter 2010. Susie is so beautiful that even through the haze of pain as she laid a mink shawl over my shivering shoulders, I couldn’t help commenting on how dazzling she looked.
I am in fashion, I can’t help it.
